Nara Philharmonic Orchestra was organized in 1985 by musicians who had an ambition to form a professional orchestra in Nara. The concerts are performed and based mainly in Nara, and the beautiful and harmonized sound caught a high evaluation from audience. Also, steady activities of Nara Philharmonic Orchestra were rewarded, and it won the cultural prize of Nara newspaper company in 1999.
At Toudaiji temple which is one of the most important temples in Nara, Nara Philharmonic Orchestra played to celebrate its 10th anniversary of the registration of world heritage in October 2008. Nara Toukae promenade concert is held every year and now it is one of the important events in summer. Nara Philharmonic Orchestra holds the subscription concerts twice a year and the salon concerts once a month. Now, it has many peopleʼs supports as an orchestra of Nara. Its motto is “Letʼs have more exciting concerts”, and it is invited by various organizations in and out of Nara and continues the performances. It has become an authorized non-profit organization in 2012.
