The College Operahouse Orchestra was founded as a resident orchestra of The College Operahouse in April 1988. The 67th regular concert was performed in November 2025. The orchestra plays for the opera productions hosted by The College Operahouse. From the early days of its foundation, The College Operahouse Orchestra has supported students of Osaka College of Music and their study and research. Other than the performances at The College Operahouse, the orchestra played for the opera production of Toshiro Mayuzumiʼs 《Kinkakuji》 presented at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and Biwako Hall in 1999. The College Operahouse Orchestra was recognized for the achievement of various performances including 《Kinkakuji》 and received The 20th Critics Society Prize in 2000. The orchestra contributes to the further success of various opera performances. In September 2005, the orchestra played for the opera production of Teizo Matsumuraʼs 《The Silence》 presented at the New National Theatre, Tokyo. The stage got a great response. The orchestra also played for 《The Silence》 presented in October 2005, and Benjamin Brittenʼs 《The Turn of the Screw》 of the 20th Opera Series at The College Operahouse Orchestra presented in October 2011. These opera productions received the Grand Prize of the National Arts Festival sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The College Operahouse Orchestra contributes to numerous other awards, including Benjamin Brittenʼs 《Peter Grimes》 received the 22nd Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Prize for Musical Art in 2013 and Toshiro Mayuzumiʼs 《Kinkakuji》 received the 6th Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Prize for Musical Art in 1997.
The college Operahouse Orchestra performed from 2010 to 2014 as a model orchestra for the conductorʼs class taught by OZAWA Seiji, YUASA Yuji, and others at a music seminar organized by Rohm, which is aimed to nurture young musicians and supported the organization of the seminar. In terms of international cultural exchange, the College Operahouse performed with the prime philharmonic orchestra in Korea at the 20th-anniversary concert of the Korean Cultural Center Osaka and earned high acclaim. In November 2023, the College Operahouse Orchestra received the 22nd Sagawa Yoshio Music Award at the 63rd regular concert of W. A. Mozart 《Theatre Manager》 and Salieri 《First Music, Then Words》.
Currently, IIMORI Norichika, YAMASHITA Kazufumi, and Yun-Sung CHANG serve as honorary conductor of The College Operahouse Orchestra, and MAKIMURA Kunihiko serves as permanent conductor. It is an associate member of the Association of Japanese Symphony Orchestras.
